DAY 1: Welcome to Java – Discovering Culinary Legends

You’ll arrive at Yogyakarta International Airport (YIA). Immediately upon arrival, you will get a private transfer to your Borobudur hotel. We recommend Plataran Heritage Borobudur or a boutique guesthouse with Javanese architecture.

Upon reaching the hotel, your welcome refreshment will be ready. It is a traditional Wedang Uwuh, a royal herbal drink.

However, before checking in, we’ll make a Legendary Breakfast Stop. This will be En Route to Borobudur at Soto Kadipiro.

This is a legendary clear chicken soup with rice. It is served with perkedel and tempe mendoan.

Lunch will be a Gastronomic Royalty Experience. We’ll dine at Bale Raos Resto – Keraton Cuisine.

Specifically here, you’ll step into the culinary world of Javanese royalty. The restaurant is, in fact, inspired by the Sultan’s palace kitchen. You will then savor dishes once reserved for the royal family.

These include, for example, the following:

  • Semur Piyik (tender young pigeon stew).

  • Sate Bebek (grilled duck skewers).

  • Sayur Kembang Waru (hibiscus flower soup). All these dishes offer a rich taste of history.

Immediately following this lavish meal, the next visit is to the Borobudur Temple.

DAY 2: Flavors from the Soil – Cooking Class & Traditional Food Tour

To reiterate, firstly, to begin the day early, we will visit the Village Market at Pasar Muntilan.

During this visit, we will conduct guided ingredient sourcing. This is for your cooking class. You will consequently learn to choose herbs, spices, as well as fresh produce.

Furthermore, in addition to sourcing, don’t forget to enjoy street snack tasting: Kue Putu, Lupis, and Cenil.

Following the market trip, you will then start your hands-on Cooking Class. Significantly, it is led by a local culinary expert or mbok jamu.

Subsequently, we take a short drive to Prambanan Temple. While there, as an educational experience, explore the sacred Hindu complex. Learn about its role in royal ceremonies and food offerings.

The day concludes with Dinner. This is a Riverside Romantic Dinner at Stupa Restaurant by Plataran. In other words, enjoy a fine Javanese-inspired set menu. This meal comes with sunset views over the Menoreh Hills.

DAY 3: Jamu, Street Eats & Culinary Souvenirs

To start the morning, we focus on Wellness & Heritage. This is specifically a Jamu Workshop in Candirejo Village.

During this engaging session, you will learn to mix traditional herbal drinks. These include, for instance, such as kunyit asam, beras kencur, and wedang secang. Furthermore, you will learn their health benefits. In addition, you will also prepare your own bottles to take home.

Next, we then explore the royal culinary heritage. This includes both a tour to the Sultan’s Palace (Keraton) and the historic Taman Sari Water Castle. This castle has strong links to the royal kitchen.

Following these royal sites, we will subsequently visit Kotagede. Here, walk through the old town. Taste traditional snacks. Also, learn about silver artisanship linked to culinary traditions, for example, betel nut containers and tea sets.

For Lunch, we’ll make a Legendary Local Warung stop.

This will either be at Gudeg Pawon, if we arrive early enough, or at Lesehan Pari Gogo. At Lesehan Pari Gogo, you can enjoy Mangut Lele (smoked catfish in coconut chili sauce).

Finally, before returning to the hotel, we will visit local snack centers. This is for traditional culinary gifts. These must-buy souvenirs include: Bakpia Pathok, Geplak, Wingko Babat, Emping, and palm sugar.

DAY 4: Airport Transfer & Farewell

Following breakfast and a leisurely morning, it’s time to say goodbye to Yogyakarta.
