Day 1 – Waterfall, Hill Farms & Savannah
To begin with, the drive from Malang, Yogyakarta, or Surabaya will take you to Cemoro Lawang, the gateway village to Mount Bromo. Before arriving, you can stop to visit the beautiful Madakaripura Waterfall.
In most cases, this 3-day Bromo and Ijen tour starts in Malang, Surabaya, or Yogyakarta. However, it can also be done the other way around, beginning at Ijen from Bali.
Meanwhile, Cemoro Lawang Village itself is a vegetable farming area perched on steep hills. As a result, not many foreign tourists pass through this route, since it is less known compared to other paths for Bromo and Ijen tours.
Day 2 – Sunrise at Bromo
To begin with, rise early on day one and set your alarm for 2:45 AM. Soon after, at 3 AM, your jeep will take you up to one of the viewpoints overlooking Mount Bromo. After that, continue by visiting the actual crater and peering inside an active volcano.
Later that day, make your way toward Ijen with a stop at the impressive Madakaripura Waterfall, the second-highest in Indonesia. As you arrive, water cascades from all sides, and your camera will surely get wet. Finally, continue the journey with a 4-hour drive from Bromo to Ijen.
Day 3 – Sunrise on Ijen
During your trip to the Ijen Crater Lake, you can start hiking at 2 AM to experience the rare ‘Blue Fire.’ Alternatively, begin at 4 AM to witness the sunrise over the lake. Since the hike takes about 1.5 hours, you should leave on time. Otherwise, you might miss one or even both of these unforgettable moments at Ijen.
